Do you like to feel motivated and excited at work? What if you could capture that energy every day? At 4th Dimension Innovative Marketing, we recently came across the book, “The Productivity Zone: Stop the Tug of War with Time,” by Penny Zenker. The author explains there are two obstacles that keep you out of the productivity zone. They are procrastination and perfection.
Why is this such a problem? In many cases, we avoid a task, or obsess over the details. High priority items on our to-do lists don’t receive the attention they need, which affects overall productivity. Members of our team at 4th Dimension Innovative Marketing have asked, why does this occur?
Zenker acknowledges procrastinators may be lacking clarity or are too complacent. If they are avoiding the tasks at hand, they aren’t striving for efficiency. However, Zenker believes procrastinators fear becoming successful. They avoid taking risks that can bring them to new heights of success.
On the other hand, perfectionists aren’t able to stop working. They are never satisfied. They have low self-esteem, so they worry about small details. Many entrepreneurs get into the habit of constantly questioning their actions.
Do you fall into one of these categories? If the answer is yes, you can teach yourself to move out of the non-productivity zone. Institute a system of checks to identify these behaviors. If you need further assistance, refer to the productivity elements in Zenker’s book.
At 4th Dimension Innovative Marketing, our team strives to work in the productivity zone. We hope you will be able to take advantage of Zenker’s book so you can work effectively too.
